Brandilyn earned her acting stripes in Cleveland, Ohio as a member of the legendary Karamu House Theatre, which has spawned the likes of Eubie Blake, Charles Gilpin, Langston Hughes, Robert Guillaume, Ruby Dee, Bill Cobbs, and James Pickens, Jr. She made numerous stage appearances in Cleveland and taught acting classes. She performed her one-woman show many times to adoring audiences. In the program she performed 15 separate characters.
In 1996 she moved to Hollywood to continue her career. She had her SAG card within six months, which if you know, is quite an accomplishment in itself. She has worked in film, television, and theatre throughout Los Angeles, such as the Stella Adler Theatre and the Colsac Theatre. She recently had the lead in an original production.
Brandilyn was part of the television repertory company, The Drama Group, at Pasadena's Channel 56. She performed lead and supporting roles teleplays like MAMA MAMA...., and INSIDE MOMENTS, where she portrayed both Ma Rainey and Ethel Waters. Equally adept at comedy, she played the irratically insane Phyllis Reverend Motherlove in the television pilot LODIBAR, about a mental institution for rich women. She currently is Coordinator of The Drama Group and is in preparation of a new play about racial tensions in high school.
